Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital, Herne Bay
Queen Victoria Memorial
Hospital, part of Eastern and Coastal
Kent Primary Care Trust provides a range of healthcare services within the
residential area of Herne
Bay. The Hospital has undergone
substantial changes to coincide with the expansion of the entire Trust.
Among these changes is the transformation of their Podiatry Operating Theatre. Brandon Medical have supplied a complete integrated operating theatre featuring their medical audio-visual systems, integrated theatre controls, medical service pendants and surgical lighting.
The operating theatre has been equipped not only for the surgeon and medical team, but for the patient. Incorporated within the design is a ceiling mounted patient entertainment system. This provides audio and video entertainment to the patients during surgery via headphones and an LCD monitor, DVD and CD system. The unit is controlled remotely by the patient from the trolley.
The theatre
has been equipped with Brandon Medical’s Galaxy Ultra HD-LED operating theatre
lights and Symposia medical A-V. Within the centre of the light is a medical
grade camera system which captures both audio and visual data and transfers it
across the hospital’s existing IT network. Embedded within the theatre system
is Symposia’s Ethernet system. This high speed IT connection allows audio and
visual data to be transmitted to lecture theatres and seminar rooms. The two
way communication means that AV can be accessed from any location. The entire
system can be controlled by the user friendly interface found on the arm of the
lights.
Installed on one of light arms is Symposia® PACs, a touch screen panel controlling the audio-visual data received from the camera system. PACs can send video and images from the operating theatre direct to external users.
To maximize space within the operating theatre Queen Victoria have installed Brandon Medical’s Atlas pendants. Through using computer aided design Brandon Medical have created a comprehensive solution that compliments the room layout and available space without jeopardizing the maneouverability or performance. Although compact, the structure itself can hold weights of upto 1000kg.
To complete the Podiatry Operating Theatre a surgeon’s control panel has been installed. The touch screen panel controls lighting, temperature and power outage to the operating theatre to provide the optimum working environment.
