University of Glagow, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
The faculty
of veterinary medicine is renowned for its teaching and is joint top for
research in the UK University of Glasgow is one of the only six veterinary
schools in the UK;
the centre specializes in a range of animal treatments and diagnostics including
small animal and equine. To maintain this high standard the teaching and training
facilities have undergone a complete renovation.
Part of this redevelopment includes the transformation of four of the faculty’s Operating Theatres. With a vision to improve the teaching and training facilities, Brandon Medical have supplied the faculty with a range of products including medical audio-visual systems, medical service pendants, integrated theatre controls and surgical lights.
Two of the theatres have been equipped with Brandon Medical’s innovative Symposia Medical AV System. Symposia® features a range of medical grade AV components including room view cameras, flat panel monitors and surgical view cameras.
The surgical view is set within a separate pod and is connected to a flat panel monitor for local viewing and a large 32” monitor ideal for observations.
Video feeds from the room view and surgical view cameras can be transferred to external users. Live video feeds can be broadcasted to the University’s lecture theatres, seminar rooms and observation rooms. Symposia® also connects the staff to a range of audio-visual sources which can be accessed from any location.
Training
within the veterinary school has improved with a huge emphasis on interactive
learning. Symposia® allows audio and visual data to be exchanged between the
operating theatre and external users. This 2-way communication is particularly
useful for mentors and students who can benefit from tele-mentoring and
tele-monitoring. This interactive teaching enables students to develop key
skills that can only be acquired when working within the operating theatre.
Mentors can monitor their students and give necessary support and feedback
during surgery.
In addition to the teaching and training system, Brandon Medical have supplied an entire range of operating theatre solutions. Included in this package is Brandon Medical’s Galaxy Ultra HD-LED lighting. These operating theatre lights are the only lights to feature HD-LED technology. The lights provide full spectrum colour rendition across the entire colour spectrum to give the maximum precision during surgery.
All four operating theatres feature Brandon Medical’s retractable and multi movement Atlas pendants. Brandon’s pendant systems are designed to give maximum flexibility, allowing accessories to be added or removed with ease. This solves the problems traditionally associated with altering the unit layout following installation. The unique design of the Atlas pendant head allows a higher number of services to be supplied in a more compact service head. This allows a greater scope for mounting medical equipment onto the pendant system and eliminates the need for trolley or floor standing equipment. This is particular important for increasing floor space within the operating theatre.
The final part of Brandon Medical’s theatre solutions is the surgeon control panels. The control panels are equipped with a medical-grade PC which is linked to the audio and visual system. Brandon’s control panels have been designed by the faculty to incorporate a range of different accessories and control options require in theatre.
